The team behind the Yacht Club and La Marmite located inside the bold-yellow, architectural Corviglia dining hall debut a new concept eaerty called ‘The Fat Monk’. Pronounced with a German accent, the new eatery is the sexiest to date located within a lounge-style room flanked by crackling fireplaces and walls of stacked stone. Low-flung leather lounges and large communal-style tables fill every inch of the space, under rustic beam ceiling and windows facing the jagged Corviglia mountainside. Those that don’t have a view, on the left side of the restaurant, face three large-screen plasma TVs displaying a streaming view of the panorama so that there’s no blitz-krieg to score the best view seats in the house.
The Food
The restaurateurs that brought a yacht club scene and gourmand eatery lavish with truffles and caviar to Europe’s highest location debut a sexy gastro-lounge offering chill-out menu of English and German-Swiss specialties. Expect contemporary Alpine cuisine from carpaccios laden with truffles, fresh field salads with raw bar selections and slow-cooked meats that include some of the best samplings of the Marmite restaurant group. Sadly, indoor smoking is still permitted but the lounge is well-equipped with air-ionizer in one corner, which non-smokers should sit as to close as possible.
Last Word
Owners of La Marmite offer gastro- lounge vibe atop Corviglia with sexy apres ski scene flanked by fireplace and endless views.
